The rules and regulations are to be complied with, and abided by, at all times with the Organiser, their representatives and the venue.

BEHAVIOUR & CONDUCT

  • Engage in proper conduct at all times whilst involved in the competition.
  • No nudity and no inappropriate behaviour. Violation of this requirement leads to immediate disqualification.
  • No vulgar language, body language or defamation of other contestants is permitted, either on stage or backstage.
  • Contestants must be punctual and arrive at the venue at their allocated time on the day for rehearsals and for the final show.
  • Contestants may not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol prior to performing.
  • The changing areas are off limits to anyone other than the contestants. No make-up artists, assistants, friends or family are allowed backstage, unless they are part of your performance. If so, they will only be permitted backstage for the time they are required.

COSTUME

  • Costumes and themed dress are encouraged and will earn you extra points.
  • Contestants are allowed to take off parts of their costume but any form of nudity or transparency in the intimate parts is strictly forbidden and will immediately lead to disqualification.
  • Allowed footwear: sports shoes, trainers/sneakers, dancing shoes, high heels and boots.
  • Male contestants may perform topless.
  • Ensure you do a full dress rehearsal before the time. Broken bra straps, creeping underwear etc will lead to point deduction.

PROPS

  • Contestants are permitted to use any props provided that:
  • the space allows for it physically;
  • it does not pose a safety hazard; and
  • it can be set up and completely removed in under 3 minutes.
  • All props will require prior approval by the Organiser.
  • Additional performers may be used as props as part of your performance, but they may not perform any tricks on the pole. Use of the pole by your assistant(s) will lead to point deduction.
  • No assistants or people as props are allowed backstage, and they will have to buy a ticket in order to secure their space at the venue.

GRIP

  • Grip enhancing products may be used. However, they cannot be applied on the pole and the contestant can only apply it on his/herself. The grip product must also be easily cleaned off the pole, without leaving a residue on the pole.
  • Gloves may be worn by the contestant during their performance to assist with grip.
  • Contestants must not apply any lotions, creams, oils or fake tan to their skin within 24 hours prior to the event.

MUSIC

  • The contestant must perform a choreographed routine of 3-4 minutes. Music is to be cut to the right length before emailing. Any music that is too long will be cut off at the maximum time limit.
  • Music is to be emailed to info@thepoleproject.co.za in MP3 format by no later than 10th November 2017. If the Organiser does not receive the music by this deadline, the athlete will have to perform without music in the final show.
  • Music can be with or without words. If any contestants choose the same music, the contestant who sends in their music first gets priority to use it, and the other contestant will have to change their music choice. Original mixes or combination of several songs is allowed.

POLES

  • The poles will be freestanding – 3.7m high and rigged at the top.
  • The poles are 45mm powder coated.
  • The static pole will be on the competitor’s right and the spinning pole will be on the competitor’s left, when standing on the stage looking out to the audience.
  • Contestants should demonstrate their skills on each pole.

PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILMING

  • Contestants agree to be photographed and filmed throughout the event.
  • All photography and footage will remain the property of The Pole Project.
  • Contestants agree that all photography and footage can be used by The Pole Project for promotional, advertising and commercial purposes, without compensation to the contestant.
  • Contestants may be required to be available for a photoshoot and possible media interviews before and after the event.
  • No photographers are allowed backstage, unless they are the official photographers / media authorised by the Organiser.

INDEMNITY

  • The contestants acknowledge and accept that The Pole Project, its owners and staff (the Organiser) and the venue staff and owners are not liable for any injury or damage resulting from participation in the event, including the contestants’ arrival and departure from the event.
  • The Organiser reserves the right to add to or amend rules.

Any failure to abide by the rules can result in disqualification.
